JNU to start Ph.d in Mass Media from 2013

Jawaharlal Nehru University has planned to introduce Ph. D in Mass Media from next year.


The University Grants Commision (UGC) has passed the formation of Center for Media Studies (CMS) in JNU  before.

 

The chancellor of JNU, Sudhir Kumar Sopory told that they have got the permission from the Academic Council to start M.Phil and Ph.D. The University is hoping to start it from the next year.

 

The CMS will focus on expanding the research in the  field of Media and wish to come up as a reasearch centre on National level.The syllabus will keep in mind the increasing needs of present media.

 

"We are looking forward to get some good teachers who will help the students to gather much information and utilise their potential to the fullest. We will apppoint permanent teachers for this, Mr Sopory added.

 

CMS has planned to appoint economists, historians, socialogists and senior journalists as its  teaching faculty.

 

The syllabus for research in mass media includes Media and Society, Media Organisations and Government Policies, Media Commerce and Media Laws.

 

The syllabus will be conducted by University's 'School of Social Sciences'.
