MoM | UP Chapter Meeting | 22 December, 2013

Dear IIMCians,
Verdant surroundings of Lohia Park, the warm winter sun and a piping, hot cuppa to break the ice- there was not a single dull moment, as 12 Alumni of the IIMC got together for the third meet of the IIMC Alumni Association's Uttar Pradesh Chapter, held at state capital Lucknow on Sunday, December 22, 2013.

The following IIMCians attended the meet:
1) Santosh Valmiki 2) Pankaj Jha 3) Md Arshi Rafique 4) Anurag Shukla 5) Ramendra Singh 6) Bhai Shelly 7) Kamlesh Rathore 8) Deepika Sati 9) Chetan Sharma 10) Shubhi Chanchal 11) Deepika Singh 12) Zara Ali.

The event kickstarted with an introductory session after which each alumnus took the centrestage to suggest ways on strengthening the IIMC family in Uttar Pradesh. Following were the important issues, suggestions and decisions that came up in the meeting:

- Owing to the busy schedule of erstwhile Organisation Secretary Marinder Mishra and transfer of Treasurer Laxmi Shankar Mishra to Rajasthan, Kamlesh Rathore was handed over the charge of both the posts. (Incidentally, Kamlesh's husband Bhai Shelly is also an IIMCian, which make them a part of IIMC's ever-expanding 'Campus Wale Couple' group!)
- It was decided that a formal re-launch of the chapter should be held next year (tentative date January 19).
- With the payment of membership fees, most of the IIMCians enrolled themselves as formal members of the chapter. It was decided that a bank account would be opened exclusively for the chapter.
- It was suggested to invite Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in one of the subsequent meetings, where he could be urged to consider undertaking efforts for setting up an IIMC branch in Uttar Pradesh to cater to the needs of the students here.
- It was also suggested that IIMCians could invite their friends and family to an IIMC picnic, which can be held sometime next year.

Thanks & Regards,
Deepika Singh

MoM | IIMCAA, MP Chapter Meeting | 22 December, 2013

Dear IIMCians,

Madhya Pradesh Chapter of IIMC Alumni Association met at Indian Coffee House in Bhopal on December 22. The meeting was presided over by President Rashmi Chouhan.

Minutes of The Meeting:

- Since the posts of Secretary and Treasurer were vacant, Shilpa Baburaj was appointed the Secretary for the chapter and Kuldeep Soni the Treasurer

The officer-bearers, therefore, for MP chapter are:

It was decided that the office bearers would work as a team to organize any meeting or programme henceforth and work towards strengthening the network in the state.

- Though the chapter has a Facebook Group, it was decided that a strong database be set up within the FB closed group having general and contact information of IIMCians present in the state.
- It was proposed that apart from merely serving networking goal, we associate yet another purpose with the association, that is, help out new students who are fresh to a place or an organization. The attendees gave their opinion and ideas for the same.

Next meeting
- The next meeting is likely to be held in February.

Alumni Meet
- The chapter, its team and IIMCians here are all geared up for the Annual Alumni Meet to be held in February. Almost 80% of the attendees gave their consent for the same.

It was attended by General Secretary Mr. Animesh Biswas, Organisation Secretaries Mr. Harshendra Verdhan, Mr. Ritesh Verma, Secretaries Mr. Mohit Agarwal, Ms. Deepti Gahrotra, Executive Members Mr. Rahul Sharma, Mr. Amit Kanaujia, Mr. Ranveer Singh, Mr. Prakhar Arya, Ms. Nikita Arora, Ms. Nitin Gulati. Alumni Mr. Ashish Bhardwaj, Mr. Nikhil Bhushan, Mr. Rupesh Pathak, Mr. Subhash Verma & Ms. Kamini Patil also attended the meeting.

Minutes of the meeting are as follows:-

1. Review of AGM & Paper Reading: The CC reflected upon the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the IIMC Paper Reading competition which took place at IIMC on October 20th. A total of 47 people participated in the Paper Reading Competition across all 6 Centers. Keeping in mind the luke warm response of students, the CC has (through majority vote) decided to engage with the Students on a more regular basis. CC member Ms Nikita Arora will be working out a suitable model of engagement, to ensure that IIMCAA does not violate its basic principle of not acting as a Student Union or Employee Union, meaning that it won't interfere in the functioning of IIMC. It was decided that IIMC Paper Reading Competition 2014 would be kept open for current batch students and last three batches to raise the participation.

2. IIMCAA's Website- The website which is being developed by our creative firm 4 AANA, requires huge budgetary support which we will commit at financially appropriate time. Currently the designing of the website is almost compete and we waiting on funds to buy server space so that the website can go live. To website will only be accessible through a unique username and password, which will be issued to each Registered Members of IIMCAA. We also looking to sell space on the website.

3. Connections 2014: The Alumni Meet 2014 is set to take place on February 16. By a majority of vote it was decided that an alumni willing to attend the meet will be required to contribute Rs. 100 to help IIMCAA in making arrangements, this will be treated as entry fee. The CC is looking at making Connections 2014 a more robust and exciting meet up and networking event than ever before, for this it was suggested that we look at booking an entertainment act to perform at Connections. The CC members are currently in the process of looking at and short listing musical acts that can be booked for the event. For this purpose the estimated budget for the event has gone up to Rs. 5 Lacs. The CC is looking finding sponsors. Finance Secretary Mr. Mohit Agarwal is working on a snapshot of Connections 2013 for the benefit prospective sponsors. Communication Secretary Ms. Deepti Gahrotra is working on the sponsorship proposal that can be sent across to corporates.

4. Campus Wale Writers: IIMCAA will felicitate the alumni who have penned down books at Connections 2014. Since the theme of this years Alumni Meet is CWW - Campus Wale Writers, it was also decided to put a budget in place and look at doing aggressive social advertising to ensure higher attendance and create a buzz around the event. We will also be looking at employing traditional PR activities, such as a press release and active media pitching to get more stories placed in various publications, which will act as a pull for any potential sponsors.

Thanks & Regards,
Deepti Gahrotra

UNESCO-CEMCA Community Radio Video Challenge for Students

For more see

About the Challenge

The CR Video Challenge (CRVC) is a joint initiative of the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), New Delhi, to engage the Indian youth in CR and promote understanding and importance of CR as an alternative media for community's self-expression, learning and development. CEMCA has been working to promote the use of CR in learning for development since 2006. CEMCA has organized over 30 workshops in the past to create awareness about CR, and runs a help-desk entitled "CEMCA Community Radio Facilitation Centre" to support new applicants and serve as a clearing house for information on CR. UNESCO recognizes that the presence of CR is a sign of media pluralism, diversity of content, and the representation of a society's different groups and interests. CR encourages open dialogue, local transparency and a voice to the voiceless. The UNESCO's International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) has been promoting the use and establishment of low-cost media, including CR stations for the past several years. In 2011, UNESCO established the Community Media Chair at the University of Hyderabad, India, which is the only UNESCO chair covering the CR sector.
