IIMC: Advertisement for Post of Consulant & Research Associate

The Department of Communication Research, Indian Institute of Mass Communication is conducting a project titled "Investment, Employment & Growth in Broadcasting Sector in India". The Indian Media and Entertainment (M & E) industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. With the introduction of digital distribution platforms like direct-to-home (DTH) and Mobile TV, Indian television industry has undergone a revolutionary change. Newer and innovative trends in all spheres of this industry have raised some pertinent issues regarding the current status and future trends for its healthy growth as an industry. In this context, an assessment of the existing regulatory and standardized operative systems is also required. The broadcasting industry has an immense potential in terms of job opportunities not only in the technology operations, content development but in media education as well. Hence, there is an urgent need to assess these trends and project its requirements for appropriate policies and programme directions.

The Department requires the following staff on contract on an urgent basis:
1) Consultant (1 Post)
2) Research Associate (2 Posts)

Details regarding the job description, education and experience are given below. 1) Consultant (1 Post)
Job Description: This is a senior level research position in the project which requires the incumbent to steer the project through designing tools, collection of data and finalizing the report. 

Key responsibilities will include:
1. Directing and engaging in day to day activities of coordinating the media project. 
2. Provide technical know-how and supervision of the project and staff.
3. Coordinate and undertake field visits to different cities/states.
4. Organise data collection, compilation and analysis.
5. Set-up linkages with Research partners.

A) Educational Qualification:
• Masters' Degree in Communication/Mass Communication or Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Economics) or Marketing/Management/ Sciences with Five years of experience in Media Research/ Media industry/Broadcasting Sector.
OR
• Ph. D in relevant areas from a recognized Univ. /Institution.
+
• Three years experience of working in Market Research organisation/Media Industry/Teaching and Research at University level.
*B) Work/Research Experience
• Work experience in the area of Media Studies /Broadcasting Industry/Development Communication/Research

C) Skill-Sets
• Efficiency in M.S. Office (Word, Excel/SPSS and Power point) is essential. 
• A capacity to write research papers/reports independently.
• Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods.

Total consolidate emoluments for the post would be ` 35,000/- p.m.
* Experience can be relaxed in cases of exceptional candidates.

2) Research Associate (2 Posts)
Job Description: This is a position in the Research Project Team.

Key responsibilities will include:
1. Assisting the supervisor in the development and implementation of the research project. 
2. Undertaking filed-work, Data analysis and Report writing.
3. Develop process for completing projects and responsible for the proper maintenance of up-to-date documentation of such process.
4. Writing research proposals and papers, reviewing literature.

A) Educational Qualification:

• Master Degree in Communication Studies/Mass Communication or Social Sciences/Psychology, Sociology, Economics/Management/Marketing/Sciences with 3 years of Media research experience/industry experience. 
OR
• M. Phil. / Ph. D in relevant area from a recognized Univ. /Institution.

B) Work/Research Experience
• Work experience in the area of Media Studies /Broadcasting Industry/Development Communication/Research/Market Research.

C) Skill-Sets
• Efficiency in M.S. Office (Word, Excel/SPSS and Power point) is essential. 
• A capacity to write research papers and making research presentations.
• Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods.

Total consolidate emoluments for the post would be ` 20, 000/- p.m.
